Description
Chilli is the fruit of plants from the genus Capsicum. Chilli originated in Mexico. Capsicum fruits have been a part of human diets since about 7,500 BC, and are one of the oldest cultivated crops in the Americas. Later many cultivators of chilli spread across the world. The substances giving chilli their intensity when ingested or applied topically are capsaicin and related compounds known as capsaicinoids.
It is used for both food and traditional medicine. Chilli is widely used in many cuisines as a spice to add heat to dishes.
